meet the miltones
The razor-sharp bluesy and bayou folk-frenzy sounds of Auckland quintet The Miltones has been sending ripples through New Zealand since their inception as a duo in 2014. Frontwoman Milly Tabak’s fiery enthusiasm not only captures audiences admiration, but also the industry’s. After featuring at the GoingGlobal showcase influencers such as Secretly Canadian’s founder Ben Swanson left applauding her engaging energy and as a converted Miltones supporter.
Since having opened for Jamie Lawson and The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band last year the band has continued to hit many milestones. This year saw the release of their self-titled debut album that the New Zealand Listener awarded 4.5/5 and the NZ Herald dubbed: “the freshest sound in New Zealand popular music right now”. Also, July 22nd marked the completion of their first nation wide tour, which resulted in up-sizing venues to accommodate ticket sales and a sold-out show at the Tuning Fork.
The Miltones' take crowds on a hypnotic day-dream like journey, full of bluesy thrills and haunting ballads that drip with soul. Crowds walk away smiling, knowing they've taken part in something special. A perfect dream weave of Kiwi Americana booked The Miltones a festival slot for WOMAD 2018 and an Australian expanse is planned in the near future.
The band consists of Milly Tabak, vocals and guitar, Liam Pratt, guitar, Guy Harrison on keys (Hollie Smith), Chris Marshall on bass (Miss June) and Tom Broome on drums (Esther Stephen & The Means, Hollie Smith).
